Sea Transportation of Refrigerated Cargo
Refrigerated containers (Reefer) are designed to keep a stable temperature inside. Their purpose is to transport goods which need specific conditions for their own good preservation.
The most used Reefer equipments are: 20’RF, 40’RF and 40’HRF. On each one of them, the ideal conditions must be established for transporting refrigerated cargo, depending on the following factors:
- Temperature: Each product has an optimal temperature of warehousing. The reefers could fix temperature between -30ºC and +30ºC, however there are some with major power which could reach temperature under -65ºC maximum, used for transporting deep-frozen products.
- Humidity: Humidity levels are very important for preserving ideal conditions during the transport duration. It is measured in relative terms (0-100%).
- Ventilation: Fresh products like fruits and vegetables release carbon dioxide and ethylene while breathing. The concentration of these type of gases could damage the goods during their route, so ventilation is compulsory for their transportation.
